With affordability, compact proportions and sexy design on its side, the new Ghibli sedan has a good chance of revitalizing the Maserati brand in the coming years. Available with a number of powerful new engines, it's even become the target of chip tuning attempts, just a few months after deliveries started.
French chip tuning company BR-Performance just released a video showing what they've achieved with the Ghibli 3.0D, the diesel-powered model going from 275 hp and 600 Nm to 311 hp and 669 Nm of torque. That's basically on par with twin-turbo 3-liter diesels fitted to the BMW 535d or the Audi A6 BiTDI.

The Ghibli is the very first Maserati model ever powered by a diesel engine, so putting the best foot forward is crucial. Claiming "all the sound, refinement and driving pleasure typical of Maserati" it's supposed to deliver over 47mpg (below 6 l/100km) on the NEDC combined cycle. Not only that, but it's also the first Maserati with stop-start.

In stock form, the diesel executive midsize is capable of sprinting to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155mph), though this tuned version is sure to be even faster.

Representing a significant technological investment on Maserati's part, the Ghibli is also available with V6 petrol engines and all-wheel drive. The fastest model is badged "S Q4" and takes just 4.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h, thanks to all-wheel drive and a 410 hp engine.
