Maserati has adopted a more mainstream approach to how it makes its cars, with the new Quattroporte, which will be getting diesel power for the first time. They are undoubtedly aware of the success of the Porsche Panamera diesel, which is very appreciated, being an unexpectedly good compromise between performance and efficiency.
The same approach will go into making the new Ghibli, Maserati’s smaller sedan offering, which is set to rival the might of the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class or the Jaguar XF. It will be shorter than the Quattroporte, measuring around the five meters in length.

It will most likely be underpinned by a Chrysler-sourced platform - probably the one in the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger. Under the bonnet, it will most likely get petrol and diesel V6 engines, with turbochargers, as well as a range topping 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 from Ferrari, which pumps out around 490 hp.

However, we say that if they really want to make a mark in the sector, they need a good four-pot engine, to at least try to match the highly-efficient and very quick four-cylinder-powered 5-Series models which are extremely good. All-wheel drive is also a possibility.
