Now that Maserati has introduced the all-new Quattroporte and Ghibli, everybody wants to know when the Italian carmaker is set to replace its ageing sports cars. Well, Maserati brought the Alfieri 2+2 Concept to Geneva, but this may not be the answer we were looking for.
Despite the “2+2” in the model’s designation, the concept is built on a GranTurismo MC Stradale platform, but comes with a wheelbase that’s 24 cm shorter. This probably means that you wouldn’t be able to fit two adults in the rear seats.
It wouldn’t make sense for Maserati to pull such a move with the replacements for its current models, so the concept probably previews a new entry-level vehicle.
As for the designation, Alfieri Maserati was the company founder, so this was a right name to choose for Maserati’s centenary year.
The concept measures 4,590 mm (180.7 inches) in length, 1,930 mm (76 inches) in width and is 1,280 mm (50.4 inches tall). The wheelbase sits at 2,700 mm (106.3 inches), separating 20- and 21-inch wheels.
The stunning sculpted metal you see here is inspired from Maseratis of the past, such as the 3500 GT and the 1959 5000 GT. As for the cabin, the Alfieri features comes with a clean approach centered around a TFT display. Aluminum can be found all around the interior, with the treats including copper details and a palladium hue.
Being based on the GranTurismo MC Stradale, the Alfieri is powered by a 4.7-liter naturally-aspirated V8 delivering 460 hp at 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 520 Nm (383.5 lb-ft) at 4,250 rpm.
Matching stopping power comes from the same car, so the concept features carbon ceramic rotors with Brembo calipers.
