On July 10, the Rockingham Motor Speedway will host Mini World Live, an event that brings together classic and modern Minis from the United Kingdom and continental Europe. In an effort to raise the hype surrounding the event, the organizers carried out a survey with the aim of finding out which are the most popular names owners give to their Minis.
The survey received responses from owners across the world, from places as far afield as Sri Lanka, Malta, and Australia. Believe it or not, the most popular name given to the Mini by owners is Marvin. This might have something to do with Marvin the Martian from the Looney Tunes franchise or R&B legend Marvin Gaye.

Survey results show that 51 percent of the world’s population of Minis is male, while 35 percent is female. Curiously enough, the remaining 14 percent of Minis are neither boy or girl. Other popular boy names for Mini cars are Tommy, and Jack. Minnie, Mollie, and Millie are the most favored girl names.

When it comes down to unusual names, the highlights are Pingu (from penguin), Tetley (because the car has more holes in it than a tea bag), and Mojo Jojo (the evil mastermind in The Powerpuff Girls). On the flip side of things, one owner has named her car Leigh Halfpenny after a Welsh rugby player. Don’t ask.

Katherine Chappell, the event manager of the second edition of Mini World Live, explains best why Mini owners are so fond of their cheeky little runabouts: “Mini owners have a real sense of community, and their cars are just as much a part of that community as they are. Minis, both old and new, are the most celebrated and characterful cars in the world, and with Mini World Live we want to celebrate that character.”

Speaking of names given by owners to their cars, what's yours called?
