Marquez scored third victory this season, and the first time to enjoy back-to-back wins this year. After a race-long stalk behind Lorenzo, he passed the Yamaha rider and claimed victory with a half-a-second gap. Rossi was third at Indy.
The MotoGP championship got underway again after a summer break that lasted for almost a month, with the 10th round, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the US. Marc Marquez started the race from pole, with his teammate Dani Pedros and Jorge Lorenzo on the first grid, while Valentino Rossi started from 8th on the grid.

Lorenzo took a good start and led the pack right from get go, but he could not open the gap he was looking for. Marquez was stuck behind him analyzing his ups and downs at every turn on the US circuit and finally made his move with only three laps before the end.

Jorge Lorenzo could only keep up, but was not able to come up with a real, threatening response. After the race he even said he was happy with second, as his race was one of the best this year, and he had done all he could, with no regrets.

Rossi had a good start from eighth and quickly started to get close to the leader. He and Dani Pedrosa put up a good fight for the last step of the podium, with the two changing positions several times until Rossi charged and made it stick into the last lap, crossing the finish line 0.181s ahead Pedrosa.

Iannone finishes fifth at Indianapolis on his birthday

Andrea Iannone made himself a nice present at Indy as he rode into the fifth position, managing to hold off a very aggressive Bradley Smith. Pol Espargaro, Smith and Cal Crutchlow were involved in a fray for several laps, including some very close brushes and even making contact.

Still, no crash occurred, with the only rider to miss the finish line being Jack Miller, who was out of the race at Turn 6 in lap 9. Ducati's young gun sits in an honorable fourth position overall, carrying great hopes for Borgo Panigale.

The top ten was completed with Pol Espargaro, Cal Crutchlow, Andra Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci. Dovizioso had a good deal of bad luck, running off in the opening lap and technically having to fight the entire race from the last position. Seeing him 9th at the end of the Indy race says a lot about his skills and the might of the new-generation of Ducati bikes.

Hector Barbera is the best Open rider

Avintia's Hector Barbera was the best Open Class rider, and he claimed the last point available, finishing the US race in the 15th position. Suzuki's riders Vinales and Aleix Espargaro were 11th and 15th, respectively. Aprilia's Bautista was 18th, while Stefan Bradl was 20th in his first race at the helm of the RS-GP bike. At a certain point early in the race he was even 13th, having started from the 17th position on the grid.

The top five ahead of the Czech GP sees Valentino Rossi leading with 195 points, followed by Jorge Lorenzo, who reduced the gap to 9 points and now has 186point. Marquez is third with 139, followed by Andrea Iannone with 129 and Bradley Smith with 97. Still, Andrea Dovizioso is only three points behind him and will most likely do his best to bet in front.

Next weekend the GP championship arrives back in Europe for the Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno, where team Forward Racing is expected to be back on the grid. As for the attendance issue we were talking about in a recent editorial, Indy hosted a crowd of around 68,000, way under the venue's massive uarter-of-a-million capacity.
