Now, the rally ace will attempt to set another record on the TT course using the brand new car which Subaru just launched in Britain. As with the previous attempt, a stock STI will be used, equipped with a 300 PS 2.5-liter horizontally opposed engine and a short-shift manual gearbox.

The current record stands at 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds, set by Higgins with an average speed of 115.26 miles per hour (185.49 km/h). He will take three separate attempts a breaking that record under closed road conditions on Saturday 31 May, Monday 2 June and Wednesday 4 June.

The Japanese car company is fully backing Mark's attempt and says it will be carried out with road-legal tires, the only change being made to the springs and dampers, which have been adjusted to deal with a bumpy track.

Higgins commented: “Setting the record was totally exhilarating and one of the highlights of my career – Bray Hill certainly added to the thrill! As a Manxman, I love the TT Races and I have a huge amount of respect for the TT riders and what they do. It will be a real honour to attempt a new fastest car lap.”

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
