Mario Moraes Signs KV Racing Deal for 2009

KV Racing Technology have secured at least one driver for their new campaign in the IndyCar Series. Mario Moraes, ranked 6th overall in the rookie standings last year, will drive the KV Racing Technology Votorantim Honda/Dallara/Firestone in the 2009 IndyCar Series, as announced by team's co-owner Jimmy Vasser.

“Mario is young and extremely talented. He impressed us with his performances on both ovals and road/street circuits last year. We look forward to watching him grow and are confident he will be very competitive during the 2009 season,” said Vasser after announcing his first (maybe even only) entry for the upcoming season.

Moraes made his debut in the IndyCar last season, following a rather disappointing run in the British F1 International Series with Carlin Motorsport. He signed a one-year deal with Dale Coyne Racing and highlighted a 7th place at Watkins Glen. He made 17 starts in the series last year, making three Top 10 appearances and ranking an overall 21st place.

“Last year was my first year in the series and every track was new and I didn't know things like the braking points. The first race (at Homestead-Miami Speedway) I was a little overwhelmed with the speed and it being at night, but you learn and move ahead. Every driver wants to improve every time out and that's what I'll continue to do this year,” commented Moraes on his first year in the series.

“I want to say thank you to Dale Coyne Racing for 2008. It was a very good year for me because I could learn a lot from Bruno (Junqueira) and everybody from the team because I had never been on an oval. This opportunity to become a member of KV Racing is good for me because it's the best opportunity to develop as a driver,” added the 20-year old Brazilian.

KV Racing Technology are yet to name their second driver for the 2009 season. Last year, the team ran cars for Oriol Servia and Will Power, winning the ChapCar-sanctioned Long Beach race through the latter.
