Mario Balotelli Buys an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Born in Italy in 1990 and now playing for OGC Nice, Mario Balotelli is both talented and a troublemaker in the world of football. A passionate lover of fast, luxurious cars, the striker also made the headlines for crashing a Bentley and for rear-ending a Corsa with his Audi R8. Hopefully, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio he acquired only recently won’t share the same fate.

Bought from a French dealership for an estimated €85,000 ($90,350 at current exchange rates), the 26-year-old footballer specified his car in Rosso Competizione Tri-Strato paint over a black interior, reflecting the chromatic identity of the OGC Nice football club’s coat of arms and home colors.

FCA Motor Village du Cannet dealership director Ivan Badolato handed the keys of the Giulia Quadrifoglio to Balotelli personally, complimenting him for choosing an Alfa Romeo. When you think about it, the Giulia Q is not the type of vehicle you would imagine a footballer to drive. It’s a fitting combination, though, for the sportsman who’s nicknamed “Super Mario” to get behind the wheel of a car that can only be described as a “super sedan.”

Slated to share Balotelli’s garage with a drop-dead gorgeous Ferrari F12 berlinetta, the red-painted Giulia Quadrifoglio is put into motion by a 2.9-liter V6 engine with two turbochargers, Ferrari know-how, and 510 PS (503 horsepower) at the tap of the loud pedal. Those ponies are sent to the rear axle by either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Thanks to the carbon fiber hood and roof, as well as many other weight-saving solutions, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio prides itself on a near-perfect weight distribution and a DIN weight of just 1,524 kilograms (3,360 pounds). Equipped with the stick shift box, the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is dealt in 3.9 seconds. The automatic is just at quick as the manual, with both capable of hitting a top speed of 307 km/h (191 mph).
