Following her horrific accident, during a test session for the Marussia F1 team, in which she lost an eye, Spanish driver Maria de Villota has undergone numerous sessions of extensive cranial and facial reconstruction surgery. She made her first public appearance in October, sporting an eyepatch.
Now, though, she has gone into surgery again, at the La Paz hospital, in Madrid, again, in order to further reconstruct what was damaged in the crash. Doctors inserted additional plaques to her skull, and the procedure was deemed a success! However, she still has one more operation left to go, before being declared fully-recovered.
Her father, Emilio de Villota said: "Maria has to start her recovery process again but she still has that vital strength that we are used to and she is improving all the time [. . .] We have been able to talk to her these days and she even followed the final race of the season."
