Maria Costello To Make Ducati Debut in 848 Challenge

The former Isle of Man TT female lap record holder, Maria Costello, is to make her Ducati debut in this week’s first round of the Rapid Solicitors Ducati 848 Challenge at Brands Hatch. Costello will be the first female to compete in the 848 Challenge when she rides the Ducati UK VIP bike over two races during the Easter weekend.

The first round of the 848 Challenge will take place over the Easter Weekend, 22 to 24 April, and is an official support race for the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

Some of the teams that already confirmed their participation in the series include Moto Rapido Racing, P & H Motorcycles, Ducati Manchester and JHP Racing. Four-time World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty has just been named the 2011 Ducati 848 Challenge ambassador.

The winner of the Championship will collect a new 848 Evo in the Dark Stealth livery as well as a 2 day course at the California Superbike School. Other prizes include a Bianchi Race Bicycle, Ducati Performance Vouchers, testing with a BSB team and other prizes soon to be announced.

The Challenge will also offer a race package that will include the series registration within the price of a new 848 Evo (2010 SRP GBP9,995/$15,730 for Dark Stealth version).

"I am so excited about this opportunity, I have always loved Ducati’s and I have ridden many of the Superbikes on track days, but never before in a race. I tested the 848 at Brands last week and it is fantastic bike and I am really looking forward to racing it in front of a big crowd," Costello said.
