Marco Simoncelli Demoes Honda Electronic Combined ABS

Italian GP racer Marco Simoncelli isn’t exactly the rider we would nominate to best suit a safety technology demonstration, considering the fact that he is known to have an aggressive riding style. Take for example, the latest accident in which he was involved, causing Dani Pedrosa to crash and fracture his collarbone.

Honda, however, thinks otherwise, and has chosen the MotoGP rider to represent it in the recent 2011 eSafety Challenge event in Vienna, Austria. The manufacturer demonstrated a range of advanced car and motorcycle safety technologies to an audience of over 300 participants, including journalists and senior officials from European safety authorities.

The Italian was there to demonstrate the benefits of motorcycle electronically controlled Combined-ABS, the world's first electronically controlled braking system for super sport bikes. The system is designed to electronically distribute front and rear braking forces to facilitate smooth braking without wheel lock.

"I am very pleased to join Honda at the eSafety Challenge today. Road safety is a critical issue for motorcyclists and advanced e safety technologies, such as Honda's combined-ABS braking system, continue to help to keep riders stay safe and in full control of their vehicles,"
Simoncelli said.

The eSafety Challenge is an annual event that promotes and highlights the life-saving potential of advanced vehicle safety technologies. During the event, participants had the opportunity to test for themselves the benefits of Honda's Euro NCAP Advanced Award winning Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), as well as technologies such as Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA).
