It's a second year of MotoGP reaching Misano, San Marino without the inspiring presence of Marco Sic Simoncelli, killed in a terrible accident at Sepang in Malaysia, October 23, 2011. However, Sic will forever be remembered by the two-wheeled motorsport community, and a special memorial has just been unveiled in his hometown of Coriano.
The event brought together Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, Lino Dainese, President of Dainese, local authorities, the Simoncelli family, championship leader Marc Marquez and friends and fans of Sic.

The monument idea came from Lino Dainese, as Sic's father Paulo told MotoGP.com: "Sometimes I ask myself why there is so much love for Marco. Perhaps it was his honesty in interviews which meant that people began to love what he did on the track, not to mention his unusual voice or his curly hair! It’s a great idea and I want to thank Lino Dainese who strongly wanted it. I thank all who came here today for this event."

Marco Simoncelli's memorial has the shape of a MotoGP exhaust and each Sunday evening, a 3-meter flame burns out of it for exactly 58 seconds, as 58 was Sic's MotoGP racing number. In his short but awesome career, Simoncelli won no less than 14 GP races, achieved 15 pole positions and had 31 podium finishes, being also the 250cc World Champion in 2008.

His fun personality and his legacy will be remembered.
