Marco Melandri Meets Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

Yamaha World Superbike new addition to the rider line-up for the 2011 season, Marco Melandri, has paid a visit to the company’s headquarters in Italy last week, ahead of the surgery he sustained to his right shoulder.

Aside from taking a closer look to a range of different Yamaha motorcycle models, Melandri also hinted to what would his ride be in his everyday life outside competitions.

The 28-year old showed particular interest in the new Super Tenere 1200, which he promised he would test soon, in the company of his girlfriend.

The Super Tenere adventure touring/dual-sport machine is powered by an all-new, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled 1199cc Parallel Twin engine, mated to a wide-ratio six-speed transmission and shaft final drive system.

The bike also comes fitted with the three-way-adjustable traction control (Off, TCS1/standard and TCS-2), Yamaha Chip Controlled - Throttle (YCC-T) drive-by-wire throttle, two D-Mode power delivery settings, a Unified Braking System and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

The bike rolls on a set of spoked wheels fitted with tubeless Bridgestone Battle Wing tires. It also benefits from a wide range of accessories, such as a full set of hard luggage options.

As said, Melandri underwent a successful surgery on his right shoulder recently and expects to be fully fit for the works squad’s next test at the Portimao circuit in Portugal on January 26. The Italian rider, a former Grand Prix 250 world champion, will be a WSB rookie on the YZF-R1 machine in 2011.

The 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship is scheduled to start February 25-27 at Phillip Island, in Australia, immediately after an official test, due to take place between February 21-22 at the same track.
