Alfa Romeo is a globally renowned brand which has a history closely tied to its motorsport heritage, as well as its stunningly designed cars which have been some of the best examples of automotive design, since, well, the car, so Chinese car buyers will be happy to know that the famed Italian brand is coming to their country.
According to the Fiat-Chrysler group CEO, Sergio Marchionne, "The Chinese market is still interesting, it has just become more competitive and more complex after a moment of great expansion. After the USA, the next stop in the global relaunching of Alfa Romeo will be China. We have not yet decided if we will start production here, but certainly we are of a mind to bring the label (here)."

Marchionne also mentioned the fact that Fiat’s first attempt at the Chinese market was doomed to fail, as, back in 2004, they “brought what I (Marchionne) consider an antiquated structure which produced models that were not in line with the market. Now we have resolved this, bringing the most advanced productive structure we have to China. It is part of a strategy to bring the Fiat Chrysler segment up to a global scale, and we have specific indications that the Fiat Viaggio model will do well on the Chinese market.

However, considering the fact that a very good looking Alfa Romeo has already been made in China, will they be able to compete? On a more serious note, Alfa Romeo (and Fiat) need the Chinese market, as, after the US one, it is by far the most important for any self-respecting manufacturer as it is one of the few big marketplaces with lots of untapped potential.
