Marc VDS Quits Car Racing, Continues with Moto2 and MotoGP

Marc VDS Racing Team will cease operation in the car racing business as of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) Estoril round. Thus, the 18th of October will mark the end of an era for the Belgian squad. Still, the decision does not affect the presence of Marc VDS in Moto2 and MotoGP.

Team owner Marc van der Straten said that it was not the actual cost of car racing efforts that caused him to make such a radical decision.

"We must admit that things have changed. So much so that today my passion for racing is gone. Employees have betrayed my trust and the family spirit of our team. I can't accept it. At 67, I do not have time to be bothered by disrespectful behavior towards the moral principles to which I am committed. I am tired of the lack of professionalism of some people I made the mistake of placed in key positions. I'm tired of those who have had no other purpose than to take the risk of jeopardizing our enterprise, even leading to bankruptcy. That's why I decided today to draw the curtain," van der Straten says.

Marc VDS Racing is not dead, however. Motorcycle racing is the future

Van der Straten says that the end of his car racing career will not impact the presence in the motorcycle Grand Prix series. And if we read his words carefully, we'd rather say that calling it quits with cars will allow him to direct more efforts and energy toward Moto2 and MotoGP.

"Marc VDS Racing is not dead. Quite the contrary. Farewell cars, welcome bikes! It has been 5 years since the beginning of our adventure in Moto2, and I saw only happiness. A world champion title, two runner-up ones ... They are high performances that made the Marc VDS Racing Team a reference in the world of Grand Prix, and I am happy to live and share them with professionals who are also great people. Getting great results and building new projects with joy and good humor, what more could I ask for?" van der Straten tells speedactiontv.

In the premier class, team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS will field Tito Rabat in 2016, replacing Scott Redding, who will join Octo Pramac Ducati. Currently Marc VDS' Moto2 duo is comprised of the said Tito Rabat and Alex Marquez, the brother of the defending MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez.

With no more pressure from the car racing program and the motorcycle Grand Prix teams delivering good results, we might see Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS upgrading to a two-rider setup next year. Bets on Alex Marquez in MotoGP in 2017, anyone?
