Marc Marquez Sides with Shoei Helmets at Least Until 2018

Marc Marquez announces that he will be racing wearing a Shoei helmet until at least 2018. This new contract comes as a natural extension of the relationship between the Spaniard and the Japanese helmet manufacturer, as the two have been together since Marquez was growing strong in Moto2.

MM93 will be using a Shoei X-Spirit 3 lid, a helmet manufactured with a 6-layer AIM+ shell made of organic fiber and multi-composite fibers in successive layers for optimum rigidity and shock-absorbing characteristics.

The multi-density EPS inner layer is also engineered with the maximum protection in mind, while the Emergency Quick-Release System comes standard. The Honda rider says that the top-drawer protection this helmet provides was tested during multiple crashes, including the Misano fall at nearly 300 km/h (186 mph).

The Shoei X-Spirit 3 CWR-F visor has a double lock system, and tear-off protectors and Pinlock lenses can be installed, as well. The interior is adjustable and modular, providing a custom fit, while the quick-drying fabric ensures moisture excellent wicking capabilities. The chin strap, center pad and cheek pads can all be detached and washed separately.

The X-Spirit 3 is also great when it comes to ventilation, and this appears to be yet another reason for his choice. The Spanish rider will, however, employ another graphic designer for his helmet, after putting an end to his collaboration with Aldo Drudi of Drudi Performance, caused by the Italian being too close to Yamaha star Valentino Rossi.

Even if the Japanese helmet manufacturers don't usually offer deals as good as the European ones, it looks like the riders with endorsement deals would rather change teams than helmet makers, and that is because most of them are actively involved in the development of the lids. Manufacturers often ask the riders to test parts or technologies and guide their development based on the rider feedback.

Would you see Rossi race with another helmet than an AGV? Hard to picture him this way, isn't it? Thought so!
