Some say that launching the biography of a 21-year-old person may sound a bit off, but when that man is already a 3-time World Champion and the youngest rider ever to win a MotoGP title, maybe things could be seen in a completely different light. So that’s how it came that the Museo Olimpico in Barcelona hosted the launch of the official biography of Marc Marquez, most likely the first in a series of books which will be written about him.
Before Marc Marquez became the youngest premier class champion, this record belonged to Freddie Spencer, and the author of the book, respected Spanish sports journalist Emilio Perez De Rozas asked him to contribute to a special foreword. Naturally, Spencer was present in Barcelona at the launch of Marquez’ biography, and also gave a talk to the audience. “When Marc broke my race win record and qualifying record in Austin last year it inspired to think about how things fall into place,” Spencer added.

Marc Marquez admits that he first opposed to the whole project, believing he was way too young for such a book, but discussing things with the author and his counsellor Emilio Alzamora, and being convinced by the two that 2013 was a truly special year both in his career and in the history of GP racing, he finally agreed to the project.

Marquez and De Rozas have collaborated for several months, to put in order the events in 2013, as the author had already documented the young rider’s journey in the smaller-displacement classes. The fact that De Rozas and Marquez already knew each other made everything easier, so the World Champion had no issues giving the author pointers on both the good and the bad things in the book, and even thought about the title of the book.

“Los sueños se cumplen” is Spanish for “the dreams come true”, and author De Rozas describes the book as “a testimony to what happened last year and the book tells the story of the 2013 season in terms of words and images, but the idea was to document the opinions and the different visions which the key figures in the paddock have about Marc as a rider and as a person.”

Now, we’re waiting for the English version to hit the book stores so non-Spanish speaking fans can also enjoy this marvelous story. Price TBA.
