Manhole Suddenly Explodes, Nearly Takes a Toddler With It

Something as peaceful as a steaming manhole could hide a real danger. Don’t know about you, but we’re kinda looking with skepticism towards any of these metal-capped holes now. We saw way too many of them going up with enough force to roll over a car...

The latest exploding manhole caught on tape could have easily hurt or even killed a toddler passing by nearly stepping on it’s cover. We have no idea where this took place but it looks like those people were at the wrong time in the wrong place for sure.

OK, so if you see a manhole cover slightly moving or starting to suddenly emit steam, you’d better keep a safe distance. It means that gas/steam has been accumulated in the sewers and it needs to burst. Just like you need to burp, but also throwing a very heavy lid up into the air which could kill someone.

The phenomenon can also happen after massive rains or flash floods when the sewers system is overwhelmed with water and air gets to be pushed outside pretty fast. If some ways out are blocked by debris, it will accumulate and burst through the weakest joint at one point.

Luckily no one got hurt in the video but we hope those inattentive parents learned their lesson and will keep a closer eye on their kid from now on.
