Mandarin Orange Opel Corsa GSi Looks Good in Official Videos

Opel is fed up with OPC and all the expectations that come with that badge. It's now focusing exclusively on GSi, an older nameplate that implies less power and more color.

It all started with the Insignia GSi, available with a 200 horsepower diesel, which doesn't seem like much when compared to the V6 powerhouse that came before. Also, there's an Astra GSi in the works.

So what's the big deal with the Corsa GSi? Well, it's what they call a warm hatch. Under its hood is the same 1.4-liter turbo making 150 horsepower and 220 Nm as in the Adam S. That makes it a rival for things like the Ibiza FR 1.5 TSI or the Fiesta 140 HP EcoBoost.

While most of the 200 horsepower hot hatchbacks of this size start at about €24,000 or more, the Corsa GSi is only €19,960. Something tells us that after searching around, you'll find one even cheaper than that.

Performance isn't exactly stellar, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 8.9 seconds while the top speed is rated at 207 kph (128 mph). Or, if you prefer, we can talk about 0 to 120 km/h in 9.9 seconds... if that's a thing. That's why Opel is marketing this more to young enthusiasts who want something appealing that can deal with occasional track use.

The toy car thus brings a suspension setup imported from the more powerful OPC model while 18-inch wheels with 215/40 tires ensure optimal contact with the road. Those red brake calipers might not make it any faster, but they sure look cool.

The body kit is almost exactly the same as the OPC, save for the lack of a mid-mounted exhaust. This yellow color is pretty cool, but for whatever reason, it's called Mandarin Orange. The other color in the videos is supposedly for troublemakers because it's called Pull Me Over Red.
