As part of Manchester United Club’s agreement with the Chevrolet brand, Sir Alex Furguson has taken delivery of a brand new Chevrolet Volt, an extended range electric vehicle which can travel up to 50 miles petrol on electric power alone but can go a further 300 miles once the on-board generator comes into effect.
“I think the Volt is absolutely phenomenal. A friend of mine drove one in the States and kept going on and on about it, so when I had the opportunity I said ‘yeah I’m going to try it because it’s the car of the future, really’. I’m very pleased with it,” said Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Together with its European cousin, the Vauxhall/Opel Ampera, it won the European Car of the Year 2012 award. This month, it’s been announced that Chevrolet Volt owners in the U.S. have collectively driven more than 100 million allelectric miles since the vehicle went on sale two years ago, so it’s not just a gimmick.

On the same day former World Champion and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who received a seven-seater Chevrolet Captiva.

“Well, every new car gives you that little bit of excitement; this is really, really exciting. I’m going to enjoy driving it through all the winding roads and the little bridges near where I live and because I’ve got a 4 wheel drive, I can see everything over the top. It looks lovely. It’s first class and I am very happy with it,” Sir Bobby said.
