An Idaho dad will be having a much easier time getting to work this holiday season, after the entire community in Idaho Falls rallied to support him by buying a new car.
Well, the car is new in the sense that it’s newly owned by the dad, Christon Gray. It’s actually a used Toyota Avalon in excellent condition, and it comes with some spending money for the holidays and a $100 voucher for gas.
It’s more than Gray could have hoped, he admits in an interview with East Idaho News. He’s been working 2 full-time jobs for a while and walking to both because he couldn’t afford a car or public transportation. He has a family and a child at home, and he’s been busting himself to provide for them.
It was about time his bosses did something nice for him. So they got together and found other local businesses to sponsor this idea they came up: they should get him a car to drive himself to and from work. Gray works at a car wash and a pizza place, and he’s been nothing short of a model employee.
To make sure he didn’t catch on to the surprise, they had the car delivered to the car wash and then had Gray wash it himself. Then, when he came inside to return the keys to the owner, they informed him that he had just washed his new car. Video of the emotional moment is available over at East Idaho News.
“We just figured out a way where we could all pool together and put some money in and help him with a ride,” New Image Car Wash owner Trent Birth tells the publication.
And the gesture came at the right time. “It’s Thanksgiving,” local Allstate agency owner Scott Bowen says. “It’s the time of year that we need to share what we have with others. Nothing better to do than help this guy out.”
Plus, as Gray himself says, he’s been walking “quite a while.” It was high time he gave his feet a rest.
