Man Van Coming from Chrysler

The minivan segment of the auto industry is not quite the one you would usually associate with manhood. Apart from the so called family guy, not many men put a minivan on top of the shopping list when it comes to buying a car.

Apparently, American manufacturer Chrysler is trying to fix that and is preparing a more manly minivan, known within the carmaker's inner circles as the “man van”. Supposed to be built as a variant of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the “man van” is to be launched within the next few months.

"A man van won't generate huge sales, but it's one of those vehicles that gets people talking and heads turning,"
a Chrysler dealer told The Wall Street Journal. "We need that now. I mean if it gets one guy to give the minivan a second look, its worth it."

For now, not many details are known about the new van, except from the let's call it confirmation coming from Dodge brand CEO Ralph Gilles and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne last month, during a discussion with the dealers.

The same dealers are, apparently, the most active when it comes to spreading rumors about the “man van.” According to them, the Grand Caravan variant will borrow much of its looks from the Grand Caravan R/T concept, shown at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Aside for the “man van”, Chrysler is reportedly working on a luxury version of the Dodge Durango, a version called Citadel.

If we are to trust the rumors, further info about both the “man van” and the Citadel will surface soon.
