One man tried to rob a coffee shop but made two very rookie mistakes: he failed to consider the possibility of resistance from his victim and he gave her ample time to react, by warning he was going to rob her.
A barista from Juneau, Alaska, identified solely as a 24-year-old woman from Juneau, was working at The Grind in the early hours of July 31, when Charles Clasby approached the counter and informed her that he was going to rob the place, the Juneau Police Department says in a press release.
He then walked back to his car, retrieved a wrench and returned to rob the place. Meanwhile, the barista had armed herself and was waiting for him.
“Clasby told the barista that he was going to rob the coffee shop. Clasby then returned to his car, covered his face, armed himself with a wrench, and began walking back to the barista. The barista fired one shot into the air from a pistol. Clasby returned to his vehicle and began ramming the coffee stand with his car, causing approximately $3,000 in damage to the building,” the statement reads.
As Clasby was ramming his car into the building, the barista and one customer jumped into the customer’s car and drove away. The suspect saw that and turned his attention towards the vehicle, so a brief car chase ensued.
“JPD officers conducted a traffic stop on Clasby and he was taken into custody,” the PD says. “Clasby was arrested for Robbery in the 1st Degree, two counts of Assault in the 3rd Degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, and Violating Conditions of Release original charge Harassment.”
Given his priors and the violent nature of his latest crime, Cobsy was sent directly to jail, where he’s being held without bail until the end of his trial.
