Priorities: one man from Memphis, Tennessee was arrested for shooting at random cars outside his home and for resisting arrest, and spent the ride to headquarters going live on Facebook.
Carl Edwards Jr. was taken into custody when police showed up to his home and found him outside, shooting at 2 cars parked farther down the street, NBC affiliate WMC 5 reports. He told the cops that the occupants of the vehicle had shot at his house first, so he was acting in self defense, but surveillance footage later obtained failed to corroborate his story.
His mother, Theresa Edwards, tells the same media outlet that someone had been terrorizing them since last week. They slashed the tires on her car and filled her gas tank with sugar, and also threw objects at the house and broke the windows and scratched the door.
On the day her son was arrested, she says she got a call from him that people were shooting at the house. It was her the suspect spoke to on Facebook live, whilst being driven downtown in the police car.
Two eyewitnesses confirm the story, with one of them saying a white Charger and “little gray car” pulled up and fired shots towards the home right before Edwards Jr. came out with the gun and shot back.
Police didn’t buy the story: they say there is no evidence anyone shot a gun except Edwards Jr., and they also charged him for turning violent right before he was led into the patrol car.
“Carl Edwards, Jr. was charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, resisting official detention, and unlawful possession of a weapon because he was not allowed to have a weapon because of a previous domestic violence conviction,” WMC 5 notes.
As for the live streaming, it is believed he wanted to tell his mother the full story. Come to think, it beats using a phone while in the backseat of a cruiser, to call 911 and complain about the air conditioning.
