In today’s “What were they thinking” news, here’s a fancy dude driving a fancy Cadillac getting stuck in a wooden bridge that was never meant for traffic other than bikes and pedestrians.
It happened on a hiking trail in Mount Brome, Quebec, Canada, and was captured on camera by a cyclist who just happened to pass by at the right moment. As you can see from the video at the bottom of the page, which ended up on Facebook, even the cyclist is having a hard time holding back laughter.

As he approaches the footpath, he realizes what that driver of the white Cadillac did and probably how hard it will be to get him out of the jam. Still, he asks the driver what the problem is, but not before letting him know that he’s not supposed to be traveling by car on this route.

Believe it or not, but the driver knows this. He even admits to hesitating before getting on the wooden bridge because he knew his Caddy was too heavy, but he did it either way. He says he’s been trying to get the car out of the bridge for almost 2 hours before the biker came.

Eventually, the Bromont police and the Station were called to assist with the driver. He was rescued and properly fined for ignoring the signs and driving on a hiking trail.

“We managed to assist him and get him out with a mechanical shovel,”
Claude Peloquin, Director-General of the Station, says. “The individual had no business there, it wasn't a road. “This is a place that is not intended for motor driving. Definitely, there was damage to the installation, but I can't tell you what kind of damage. We'll do the full analysis on Monday.”

The police say no criminal complaint against the driver was lodged, so it’s unlikely that he’ll be facing jail time. Still, he may – or should – have to pay for the damage caused to the wooden footpath.
