Man Gets an Iron Rod Stuck in His Head, Turns Up at Gas Station for Help

The last thing you expect to see in a gas station, in the middle of the night is a man with an iron bar lodged in his head barging in. At first, you probably think it’s another one of those pranks they pull on TV, but then you see blood coming down the side of his head and you realize it’s serious.

That’s pretty much what people in Bay of Plenty, New Zealand went through in a local petrol station when a 23-year old driver stepped in after midnight asking for help. It turned out the man was the victim of an attack who could have killed him. Not only was he conscious and rational, but even seemed to be quite laid off about it.

The driver was sitting in his car on Clive Road in Katikati, 40 km northwest of Tauranga, just before midnight when two men and a woman approached the vehicle, Detective Sergeant Daryl Brazier said.

After briefly talking to the driver, the thieves started hitting him and eventually attacked the poor fellow with an iron rod. He later found out the metal was stuck in his head so he went looking for help at the local petrol station.

He just walked in with the rod in his head and I was just like, ‘Is that a drum stick in you head?’” witness Dylan Shea told 3News. “And he was like, ‘Nah, it’s a rod’. It looked like a Halloween stunt where people wear those Halloween costumes over their heads, but it was pretty real when he turned around and blood was coming down the side of his head.”

Somehow, the man was quite calm and coherent and asked the station staff to call the police instead of an ambulance. He was later taken to the hospital to have the rod removed, as the doctors clearly pointed out that the victim was quite lucky. As you’d expect, such injuries can even lead to a man’s death.

Well, maybe there’s an innocent driver’s God out there after all.
