The all-new 2015 Skoda Superb is big on having space, which is also what we call the vague are around our planet. So it was only natural the first commercial to feature references about extraterrestrial life.
The first marketing campaign for the Superb shows a handsome executive/male model fellow driving up a mountain road. At the same time, a sexy nerd girl is looking for signs of intelligent life outside our solar system.
"I have proof of intelligent life," she says after making her discovery. Little did she know that what her scanners are picking up is her handsome fellow driving a Skoda.
The funny thing is that this ad, while not very funny, is sure to sell cars. It pays attention to the emotional side of a car brand that used to be only about practicality. Comfort and dynamism are both implied by the curved road and relaxed nature of the driving experience.
The storyline of the film refers to the WOW! signal picked up by the Big Ear radio telescope in 1977 in Ohio when scanning the sky in the direction of the Sagittarius constellation, Skoda says. However, it also reminds us of two funny old movies.
First, there was 1988's My Stepmother Is an Alien, where Kim Basinger comes from anther planet, looks extremely sexy, east car batteries and keeps a magical eye in her purse. There's also 2000's What Planet Are You From?, where Garry Shandling pretends to have vibrating alien genitals attached and realizes you can never understand women.
“The triad of expressive design, top technology and voluptuous interior space makes the new Superb a benchmark in its segment and an attractive vehicle for private and business customers. Our marketing campaign ‘Travel in style. Travel in space’ is placing this successful combination of style and space into the spotlight in an emotionally charged, attention-grabbing and high-class way,” said Stefan Buscher, Head of Skoda Marketing.
