A verbal dispute between exes took a turn for the violent and the strange over the weekend in Weare Township, Michigan. A car, a tractor and an actual crossbow were also involved.
Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast says trouble began early in the morning, when the 60-year-old man went over to his ex-wife home and picked a fight with her. When the dispute turned really sour, he went out of the house and to the tractor he had driven over, and then used it to turn the woman’s car over.
“The male subject then used a front-end loader on the tractor to flip his ex-wife’s vehicle over onto its top. The male subject then fled the scene on that same tractor,” Mast says in a statement to WZZM13.
Prior to that, he had threatened the woman with a “large knife” and had also been verbally abusive. The woman called the cops when he was gone, so they tracked him down to his own home.
When the police arrived outside his residence, he had barricaded himself in and was threatening the officers with a “cocked and armed crossbow.” He informed them that he would not be taken alive and that he had every intention of using his weapon on them. The police retreated but continued engaging the suspect.
“The deputies kept communications going with the suspect for several hours,” Mast explains. “During this time, a Michigan State Police negotiator came to the scene to assist as well. The trooper continued to speak with the subject until he eventually gave himself up at approximately 4:30 p.m.”
The man is now in custody, awaiting charges. The report doesn’t say what these may be, but considering the severity of his actions, he can expect to go away for a few good years, at the very least.
