Last week in Seattle, during rush hour, a very strange and violent scene unfolded: a man walked up to a stranger and tried to choke him, and then went berserk on the cars stopped in traffic.
In total, Alexander Orminston damaged at least 5 vehicles by jumping on them, tearing the sunroof of a Lyft vehicle and using it as a weapon. He also injured 2 people: the random man he tried to choke and a Seattle Police Parking Enforcement Officer who tried to stop him.
KOMO News reports that the 28-year-old was charged yesterday with felony assault and malicious mischief. Eyewitness Matt Reynolds, who was there and was able to shoot part of the incident on his phone, says Orminston looked “dead behind the eyes” while he was jumping on cars or delivering punches and kicks to the parking officer.
Reynolds’ Tesla was also damaged: Orminston jumped on his hood, broke his windshield and jumped on the roof. He estimates damages are in the vicinity of $10,000 and says he recorded the incident so he could show it to his insurance company.
“He landed on my car, on my hood, tripped into my windshield, jumped onto the roof and started jumping on it like a gorilla,” Reynolds tells the media outlet. “He cracked (the roof), and then he went on to the car next after me. I saw him coming at my car, I rolled up my windows.”
The Lyft driver was inside the car when Orminston jumped on his vehicle: he’d also rolled up the windows and instructed his passengers to stay still. They saw from inside how Orminston ripped off the sunroof and then tried to use it as a weapon against the parking officer.
KOMO says Orminston’s father paid his bail, so he is now in his custody. A judge ordered Orminston to seek treatment until the trial, but the report doesn’t mention what for. He is due back in court next month.
