It appears buying a tank just for fun is not something only rich people like Arnold Schwarzenegger do. In fact, in some places on this planet people can buy retired war machines the same way most of us order second hand cars.
25-year old Jerkey Lysell is a Swedish silver medal winner at last year’s European Orienteering Championships that decided it was time to take his navigation talent to a whole new level.

So instead of buying an off-road vehicle he’d explore unknown terrain with, he rather went for a soviet MT-LB tank from the late 1960s. He had his twin brother Jerker helping out with the money so he could afford it and simply ordered for the war machine online.

So far we’ve just been driving over trees around the farm at my father’s place and driving around on the fields. It’s quite dangerous because the vehicle is open in the back, so if we have people sitting in it, things could turn risky with the trees falling down,” Jesper explained.

It appears the tank, which was built in Bulgaria, can travel at up to 60km/h on roads and up to 30 km/h over rough terrain, so it’s not really what you’d call an regular snow mobile, but driving sure implies a lot more adrenaline.

Even though it’s not quite clear where the funny fellow got his money from - since it did cost about 100,000 Swedish kronor ($12,000) - it appears his father didn’t try to stop him. “My father just told us that we were just stupid, but he didn’t actually care, he thought we were just stupid idiots.”
