Man Builds Steam Engine BBQ Smoker, Names It after a Country Song

When this man from Rockford, Illinois finally finished his long-time project, his daughter thought it would be nice to interview him. The man spent around three years to build a steam engine train replica that has a real life barbecue integrated inside. He even engraved the number from Boxcar Willie’s country song, “The Wreck of old 97,” on the side.

He was going down the grade doing 90 miles an hour/ When the whistle broke into a scream/ He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle/ And scalded to death by the steam,” these are just a couple of verses of the country song, but this story is not really that scary. Nobody is dying here, nor getting hurt, in fact, the man’s unique barbecue looks quite safe.

Not only will the chicken get the exact heat it needs to taste perfect, but the steam train engine is literally steaming all over the place. It’s got all the bells and whistles and several places to vent the steam so you can feel just like a real train engineer.

A dream come true for any kid? Maybe. But this handmade steam-engine is not for children, as it rather looks like the perfect toy adults would use in a summer party.

It’s not the first time we see people building their own weird cooking machines but, as opposed to the Cadillac hearse grilling machine for instance, this one is actually cute-strange. In fact, we’re wondering if there are any people out there turning their car into a grill. That would be really interesting. Maybe you’ll help us out with this one.

PS: We're still not sure since when train engineers/cooks are wearing guns, but that is a whole new discussion...
