Man Builds Detailed Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs Out of Wood

If the global lockdown has proven anything, it's that we need to be more self-sufficient while finding ways to keep ourselves occupied around the house. And while you can't build a car out of wood, woodworking can, at least, serve as a hobby.

A very skilled craftsman from Vietnam has wowed the world over the past few months with his detailed time-lapse videos of hisToyota Land Cruiser builds. It's safe to say that nothing like this has ever been seen before, at least not of this caliber.

The three videos below show him making both a Land Cruiser V8, which is the $85,000 luxury model we had in America, and the smaller Land Cruiser Prado. Together, these clips have racked up over 80 million views, which probably proves people will watch anything while they're bored... because there aren't that many woodworking or Land Cruiser fans on YouTube.

I've cut myself with the saw enough to know that the job was nowhere near as easy as the guy makes it look. The process starts with a big block of wood (looks like a 5x5). Scale templates of the vehicle are overlayed and the general shape is roughly cut out on the bandsaw.

Using a variety of tools, large and small, the builder carves out both ends of the 4x4 by hand. It's quite impressive how he gets it to look symmetrical and to match the full-size SUV. The details are also mind-blowing here.

Like a scale model you'd buy from the store, this has a trunk and doors that open up. Can you imagine having to carve that out? Also, the interior has been done here, and even more magic is happening underneath. The Land Cruiser has working wood suspension and both the tire tread and spokes have been carved out.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
