One irate passenger took out all his anger on a poor New York City bus, and the driver became so spooked that he activated the panic button that lights up the display above the windshield.

The strange part of the story is not the violent outburst itself, but the fact that, despite the pleas from the bus, no one bothered to call the cops. The incident was captured on camera by a Twitter user named Tjani and uploaded on social media: he says the whole thing was pretty “standard” and no one paid much attention to it, let alone call 911.

Police tell Jalopnik that they were alerted of the incident. They say the man entered “into a verbal dispute with the driver” after the latter’s alleged refusal to pull over so he could get on. Then, the man “kicked in the glass on the bus’s front and rear doors causing an estimated $2,000 of damage to the vehicle.”

In the video, the suspect is yelling at the driver from outside the bus that he had to run for 23 blocks so he could catch up with the vehicle. He’s angry because the driver wouldn’t stop for him, so he’s taking it out on the bus: he’s kicking and punching it, ripping off the mirrors and smashing them on the ground. Meanwhile, the display on top of the windshield reads “Emergency, call the police.”

According to Tjani, no one did. The driver eventually managed to get away from the angry man and drive off, with him in close pursuit. He eventually gave up, though, and fled before the cops arrived. He is now a wanted man and will have to pay, one way or another, for the damage caused.

“We do not tolerate any behavior that threatens the safety and security of our employees and customers,” New York City Transit President Andy Byford says in statement to Jalopnik. “We take this matter very seriously and are working with NYPD to find this individual and bring him to justice.”
