Earnie Steven Hooks, a 39-year old man from Fontana, California, thought he might try harder when he realized that the first attempt to steal a Ferrari didn’t quite work out. The second time, he allegedly stole the same sportscar right from the impound facility, where police have taken it after the thief firstly abandoned it, a day before.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that Fontana Police arrested Earnie Hooks, of Los Angeles, for stealing the same black Ferrari 458 Spider twice. Court records say he has pleaded not guilty to car theft and resisting police. Authorities claim Hooks was stopped at a drunken driving checkpoint on August 29th where officers found that the black 2014 Ferrari 458 Spider he was driving had been reported stolen.
It turned out to be true, considering the man drove away form the checkpoint and later abandoned the car, which was impounded. However, Hooks just couldn’t stay away from the black sportscar, as it turns out he came back for it, around 3 a.m. the next morning, when it was reported it was stolen from the impound facility. Hooks was arrested five days later while driving the Ferrari in his Studio City neighborhood.
Don’t get us wrong, but in a way we kind of understand the huge desire of this fellow to keep the car. After all, the 458 Spider is the world’s first mid-engined car to sport a retractable hard top. It’s builder see the model as a concept that combines comfort, lightweight construction, functionality and performance.
