Mallya Didn't Expect Such of Strong Season in 2009

Force India have certainly gone from bottom of the grid to regular point contenders throughout the 2009 Formula One season thanks to the team's immense changes after the 2008 finale at Interlagos. A new engine supplier, a new staff and a new attitude has made Force India one of the teams to be feared in the mid-pack.

Although they are yet to score a point in the last 3 races, Force India have always been up there battling for the point scoring positions. Most recently, Adrian Sutil had a good chance of bringing home some points, only Toyota's Jarno Trulli had other plans for the Brazilian Grand Prix two weekends ago.

Considering the immense progress made by the team in recent months – they were targeting BMW Sauber's spot a few weeks ago – team owner Vijay Mallya admitted his excitement over the performances recorded this season, and insisted the team will continue to make progress through the upcoming season thanks to the level of confidence gained in 2009.

At the start of the year, we wanted points but I also wanted to show a genuine improvement in every area of the company. We have learned from the mistakes of last season and have really tightened up processes, procedures and working practices, which has ultimately helped us to score points and be proud of our achievements,” said Mallya.

I would say this year has even exceeded our expectations as we have secured a podium, pole and fastest lap. We can be really proud of this. All the same we have had opportunities we haven't been able to make the most of,” added the Indian billionaire.

If we can get into a similar position next year and follow through all the chances we could be solid midfield in both championships,” concluded Mallya.
