Making a Phone Call on Android Auto with Google Assistant Suddenly Broken Down

Being an Android Auto user isn’t for everybody, as only the bravest can endure all the bugs this super-useful application throws at them.

And one of the most recent issues concerns the phone calls that are being made with voice commands via Google Assistant, as the whole thing appears to be broken down for no clear reason.

More specifically, while phone calls on Bluetooth and with manual input work just fine, not the same thing can be said about those initiated with Google Assistant when Android Auto is running on the screen.

A typical command like “Hey, Google, call Bob” often has Google Assistant returning an error like “to use the car mic, end other calls.” Of course, there are no other calls active, and users are just stuck with this error whenever they try to make a voice with a voice command.

The microphone is obviously in working condition since Google Assistant actually responds to the audio input, so at this point, it’s not exactly clear what users coming across this problem can do.

In the meantime, Google has already acknowledged the glitch and said it’s investigating, though obviously, there’s no ETA as to when a potential fix could land for users struggling with the whole thing.

We are currently investigating this issue. It would be great if you could send us a bug report from your phone to diagnose the root cause of the issue. We'll send an email with the instructions on how to capture a bug report. Please reply directly to the email with your information,” a member of the Android Auto team said, explaining they need additional feedback to figure out what’s happening.

A new Android Auto update is expected in the coming days, but of course, since this glitch is still under investigation, you’d better not hold your breath for a fix this time.
