The main development paths the carmaker will pursue on the continent cover all its three major businesses there, namely commercial vehicles, passenger cars and imports. Of them all, passengers cars are pivotal.

Over the following years, says Ford, three new vehicle nameplates will be launched on the local market, including “the all-new Mustang-inspired fully electric performance utility.”

That’s the so-called Mach 1, or Mach E, the car is currently undergoing testing and is expected to be presented in concept form by the end of the year. Not many details are known about it yet, apart from the fact that it will have 370 miles range.

Alongside it, two new other nameplates will be launched, other than the already confirmed and/or unveiled Kuga, Puma and Explorer PHEV.

All three new cars should land on European shores over the following five years, Ford says.

Aside for the announcement of the new products, the Blue Oval also committed to drastically change its business approach in Europe, in what is the “most comprehensive redesign in the history of its business in Europe.” As previously announced, three of the carmaker's plant will be closed.

“Ford will be a more targeted business in Europe, consistent with the company’s global redesign, generating higher returns through our focus on customer needs and a lean structure,” said in a statement Stuart Rowley, Ford Europe president.

“Implementing our new strategy quickly enables us to invest and grow our leading commercial vehicle business and provide customers with more electrified vehicles, SUVs, exciting performance derivatives and iconic imported models.”
