Major Google Maps Alternative Now Available on Android Auto

The number of navigation apps launching on Android Auto keeps growing, as more developers seemingly take advantage of the recent Google updates to release a car-optimized experience for their apps.

The latest to do so is none other than TomTom, a leader in navigation software and one of the companies that also offers mobile apps on both iPhone and Android Auto.

Weeks after rolling out Android Auto support for AmiGO, TomTom is back with more good news for those whose devices run Google’s mobile operating system.

The company’s flagship navigation app, TomTom GO Navigation, now sports Android Auto support as well, bringing its rich feature lineup right to the head unit in your car.

TomTom GO Navigation provides navigation features and a series of extras, such as traffic information and speed camera warnings when an internet connection is available. In other words, it can very well become a Waze replacement as well, therefore helping you deal with the crazy traffic in today’s modern cities.

The app also comes with EV profiles, which means owners of electric cars can get additional functionality specifically tailored to their vehicles and easily find available charging points on their routes.

Like Google Maps, TomTom GO Navigation also comes with support for offline maps, so if you don’t want to use your data plan for navigation, you can just download the map of your region and therefore run the app without an internet connection.

The bad news is that as compared to traditional mobile navigation apps, TomTom GO Navigation isn’t available free of charge; it’s only offered with a subscription. So if you want to get all the features mentioned above, including an ad-free experience, you need to pay a monthly fee for the whole thing.

In Europe, TomTom GO Navigation can be yours with €12.99 ($15.90) per year or €1.99 ($2.44) per month, with the company also offering a 30-day free trial to test-drive the app.
