I’m sure most people of varying ages still know the TV show KITT, which despite not being particularly good, it showed us how cars of ‘the future’ would be like. The makers of the series did get the voice command part right, as according to autonews.com, GM, Honda and Toyota have confirmed interest in Apple’s Siri voice recognition technology, currently available on the iPhone 4S.
It's already a very good and robust system, but it will be substantially improved with the release of the upcoming iPhone 5, expected to make its debut this October. While other voice recognition systems have come and gone, it seems that Apple’s approach has been highly successful - so successful that it’s leaving the field of mobile phones and integrating itself into cars. People usually develop bonds with their cars over time, attributing very human traits to them, so imagine what will happen in the human psyche.
A rather large list of manufacturers have reportedly agreed to use Siri in their upcoming models. Excluding the three mentioned in the first paragraph, Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW and Jaguar-Land-Rover will be among the manufacturers with cars which will talk back. With the mass implementation of such technology, along with all the new green innovations means that the experience of driving a car is changing quite rapidly - we can’t wait to get our hands on a Siri-equipped car!
