Renault's Romanian bet, the Dacia Logan, has long managed to leave behind the tag of cheap car and slowly began playing the game with the big boys of the industry. Although it obviously lacks all the qualities that would make the model a premium one, the car, which sells as either Dacia, Renault or Mahindra, is in high demand in developing countries, bringing Renault incredible sales numbers.
In India, the fastest growing auto market after China, the Logan sales are picking up pace as well. In India, the Logan failed to impress, selling only 60,000 units in five years (the annual target had been set at 50,000 units) and causing in the process the separation of Renault from Mahindra.
This hasn't stopped the Indian automaker from acknowledging the potential of the model. Mahindra presented a new version of the model, one that it says is more suitable for the country.
To be called Verito (derived from the Latin word ‘Veritas’ which means truth), the new model will be powered by two Renault engines, a gasoline and a diesel one. It will come with similar equipment levels as the Logan and will feature ABS with EBD, driver airbag, head restraint for all seats, side impact beams and driver information system.
“The Verito, with its unique value proposition aligns with the Mahindra DNA of offering tough, rugged and sporty vehicles. For the first time, we are using social media platforms to unveil a new product, reflecting alternative thinking. The earlier Logan will continue to get complete service and spares support from us,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra CEO.
