Mahindra Set to Launch Thar in India this Month

As 2010 draws to a close, Mahindra is planning a cherry to top of its model range. The Indian carmaker wants to introduce a new generation of the Jeep look-alike, the Thar 4x4. The company has made the announcement yesterday that vehicle will be released this month, though the exact date was not shared.

The Thar has captured the imagination of off-roading enthusiasts in India. Its looks and features have gone down well with the general public. Mahindra showcased the Thar at the 201 Indian Auto Expo. It has already commenced exports, and it is now India’s turn to gain access to a rugged and modern off-roader.

The Mahindra Thar comes with a 5 speed manual transmission with a 2 speed gear reduction of ratios. The high reduction gear has a 1.0:1 and low one 2.48:1. Under the bonnet, the Thar is fitted with a 2,498 cc diesel engine that produces 105 hp at 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm between 1800 and 2,000 rpm. The power is delivered through 16 inch tires with the help of leaf springs at the rear and independent suspension with torsion and stabilizer bars ensure unlimited off-roading.

In European markets both two seats and four seats options will be available. We are not sure about which variant will be coming to India. So if you are an Indian adventure loving motorist and searching back yards of garages for your dream machine, you may hit pause button for now. The basic dimensions of Hard top Mahindra Thar compact off roader are length 3920 mm, width 1710 mm and height 1930 mm.
