According to the company, once all the lines of the facility become operational, roughly 2 million products will roll out of the Ryazan, factory each year. The production will serve carmakers like Autovaz, Gaz, Sollers, Renault, Volkswagen and Ford.
“Our goal is to become a leading player in the sector of automotive components in Russia, the only market that is currently showing an upward trend in Europe and one of the most important ones at the global level,” said Eugenio Razelli, Magneti Marelli CEO.
“Expanding Magneti Marelli’s industrial presence in Russia is part of the strategy that has driven us to widen our footprint on growing automotive markets worldwide over the past three years, in order to be close to local and global customers. We are interested in localizing all of our production branches in Russia, through both direct investments and partnerships with local players.”
The new establishment is hoped to increase the reach of the company's offering. Within the group, this segment currently accounts for about 25 percent of the total turnover. Magneti Marelli produces globally 20 million headlamps and 25 million rear lamps each year, including ones with the newest technologies, LED and XENON.
As for why the company chose Russia, one of the worst hit automotive markets of last year's crisis, Magneti bets everything on the good forecasts for the local market, which say that by 2015, Russia will produce 2 million vehicles each year.
