Gods of machines on wheels, where are you? How can you not see where the kings of auto design have ended? First they started creating trains, then bicycles and now headphones. What ever happened to the Pininfarina Ferrari used to create the oh-so popular 458 sportscar?
Nothing happened you petrol-addicts, you, nothing. It’s just the way the world of cars keeps spinning around, it’s like Bob Dylan perfectly puts it, The Times, They are A-Changin’. That doesn’t mean Pininfarina is out of the auto industry, it only means the Italians are nowadays looking into other fields of practice as well.

And Magnat is not just any audio maker, they come with around 40 years of experience in development of high-end speaker systems. With their newest model dubbed the Magnat LZR 980 they had Pininfarina helping them out with the design. The result? A futuristic ear-pod lookalike headphones, featuring profound curvy lines that run through the entire headband.

Apart from the peculiar shape of the headphones, which are not that often found on regular ear cups, the new model is developed with laser measurements in vacuum chamber which creates a very transparent and dynamic sound experience. The ear cups and headband are connected by a classy metal element that makes them look even better.

To keep things isolated to any exterior audio disturbance, the headphones were designed with a Ventilation Air-Tec technology, which avoids any kind of sweating.

When not in use the hinges connecting the ear cups and headphones fold. According to Damn Geeky, the Magnat LZR 980 by Pininfarina is powered by 40mm drivers that are multi-layered between a membrane and neodymium magnets N45.

They are supported by anti-resonance elements and enclosed inside a case having aperiodic damping systems. The headphones don’t only look good, but they also have a good frequency response, sound pressure levels and harmonic distortion.

In other words, these puppies are what any music enthusiast would like to have, but quality and style will come at a price, EUR300 ($340) to be more precise.
