MagnaFlow Rolls Out Axle-Back and Cat-Back Exhaust Systems for the 2022 Subaru WRX

The WRX has always been a sweetheart of the aftermarket. Redesigned for 2022 on the Subaru Global Platform of the Impreza, the World Rally eXperimental has leveled up to a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder boxer that doesn’t sound particularly nice in stock form. The peeps at MagnaFlow are much obliged to help owners with freer-breathing exhaust systems made using CNC precision robotic manufacturing techniques.

Two versions are currently listed on the company’s website, starting with the Competition Series Axle-Back Performance Exhaust System. Part number 19609 carries a sticker price of $849, features 2.25-inch main piping with a muffler delete, and terminates in 4.0-inch quad exits finished in black chrome. Constructed from stainless steel, the corrosion-resistant exhaust is a straight-pipe design backed up by a limited lifetime construction warranty.

All gaskets and other hardware are included in the kit, enabling do-it-yourself installation as long as you’re handy with basic tools. The finish is warranted one year. Part number 19608 is a little costlier at $1,349 because it’s a cat-back system with 3.0-inch piping. Boasting a straight-through muffler that ends in the same 4.0-inch tips as the axle-back system, this exhaust “increases engine power and performance by improving the flow dynamics and evacuation of exhaust gases.” MagnaFlow says that it has performed extensive dyno testing, yet it didn’t provide the power and torque gains.

Confirmed to never receive an STI variant, the WRX on sale today starts at $29,605 excluding the destination freight charge. The rear-wheel-drive BRZ, which uses the same 2.4-liter boxer sans the turbocharger, costs $28,595.

The WRX is the most powerful Scooby for the 2022 model year, packing 271 horsepower at 5,600 rpm. On the flip side, the 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder boxer in the Ascent churns out more torque (277 lb-ft versus 258 lb-ft). Adding insult to injury, the JDM Subaru WRX S4 packs a few more pound-foot from the same engine, matching the peak torque rating of the family SUV.
