M1 Sport Technik Spitzing Pedelec Does 75 KM/H, Costs a Small Fortune

The three Spitzing pedelec models of German company M1 Sport Technik are among the few high-tech e-bikes money can buy, and they're also so not shy of showing this off. However, top-drawer two-wheeler technology was never cheap, and the Spitzing e-bikes are no exception to the rule.

Still, if you're willing to spend big bucks on an electric bicycle, you're in for quite a treat, especially if you're eyeing the top version. Long story short, the M1 Sport Technik Spitzing bikes are race-grade pedelecs and they are now becoming more widely available outside their native country, Germany.

We've just learned that they will presently be available in Italy, thanks to local importer Elektra Mobility of Pino Torinese, but sort of sighed deeply when we saw the price tags. The three Spitzing versions, graded by their power output will be available in Italy for prices ranging between €8,000 ($8,990) and €9,500 ($10,675).

An electric bike doing 50 km/h in 7.5 seconds

M1 Sport Technik delivers three Spitzing versions, Pedelec, S-Pedelec and R-Pedelec, with the letting standing for "speed" and "race". The base version is equipped with a 250W motor with a peak power of 500W, and it can reach 25 km/h (15.5 mph), while the Speed version packs a 500W motor with 850W peak power that can hurl the bike to 45 km/h (28 mph).

The race-specced Spitzing is not exactly a legal, road-going bike, because its 850W nominal power motor can make it reach a top speed ok 75 km/h (46.6 km/h). Even more, this bike is credited to do 0-50 km/h (0-31 mph) in 7.5 seconds, which is, of course, a notable performance.

With 120 Nm (88.4 lb-ft) of torque available, the Spitzing bikes can effortlessly wheelie, and if you're a fan of stunt riding, it's hard to find bikes with such nerve in stock trim. The frame is made from carbon fiber and arrives from Fritzmeier, the same specialists that craft carbon parts for the electric BMW cars.

The drive system is a joint effort of GoSwiss and BMZ, and regulates power with input from the pedals, according to each rider's style and needs. The 880 Wh battery pack delivers a range up to 120 km (74.5 miles) and can be charged both on and off the bike. On the proper bike side, the Spitzing is equipped with a stepless hub and a 10-speed Shimano Deore derailer.

Customers are advised to check with the local transport laws, as the S-Pedelec may require that the rider also had a driving license. For more info, please check with M1 Sport Technik online.
