It seems like the Abu Dhabi BMW Dealership is not the place where family cars are being discriminated against, even though we’ve grown used to seeing the latest sport cars from Bavaria showcased over there.
This particular dealership is also known for delivering the first ever BMW F80 M3 in the world a while back, well before the embargo that was set for July, this year. So you’d expect only M3s, M4s and M235i cars to be showcased over there, right?

Wrong! The guys just posted some photos of their latest addition to their showroom floor and it’s nothing you’d expect. It’s a 3 Series Gran Turismo, the ‘most family-car’ of them all in BMW’s recent line-up.

The 3 Series GT was thought from the get go as an alternative for people that wanted a bit more room inside than in a regular 3 Series but didn’t want to stretch all the way up to the 5 Series range. At that, the new version is perfect.

It offers plenty of headroom and legroom in the back and a couple of extra liters of storage in the boot. Furthermore, the tailgate makes it easy to pack everything you need.

But such a car is by no means beautiful or agile on the road. The extra weight added by that bulky rear turns the 3 Series GT into a sluggish model that really has a hard time going around bends like old BMWs used to, as we found in our review.

The fact that the Bavarians still claim that it’s just as agile as the normal 3 Series range is plainly ridiculous. What’s even more outrageous is that they even developed an entire M Performance package for this version that is supposed to make it... look better?

We’re not really sold on it. You can see such a model in the adjacent gallery, featuring the car we told is now on display in Abu Dhabi. The ‘model’ is showing us exactly how a 3 Series GT fitted with M Performance kidney grilles, mirror caps, spoiler lip, side skirts and rear bumper looks like. We’re not impressed. It looks like an odd mix and nothing more.

You can’t really imagine a soccer mom driving her kids to school in such a mean looking car, right? Or can you?
