M Performance 335i vs D3 Cadillac ATS Comparison

Last time MotorTrend compared these two cars, they were both stock and the Cadillac won for various reasons. This time, the two are back but with a little something extra on the side.

The 335i was fitted with BMW's M Performance Power kit, the M Performance mirror caps, Bilstein suspension, HRE wheels, a Borla exhaust and a blacked out kidney grille. Not all of them performance improvements but we had to write them down.

The Cadillac on the other side was completely done by D3 and has their ECU tune, suspension and other various add-ons. The other important difference is that the BMW is manual, whilst the Caddy has a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Dyno readouts showed that the BMW has more WHP, tapping out at 286 WHP and 302 lb-ft (410 lb-ft) of torque. On the other hand, the Cadillac showed 260 WHP and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm) of torque.

On a straight line, the BMW won, despite having a manual gearbox, and it also won the braking test, even though just by 1 small foot (that may very well be the difference between life and death sometimes).

Despite the Cadillac being more entertaining on the track, once the two cars went on open road, the BMW proved its worth, being a much more laid-back daily driver. For the complete story, check out the video below.
