Lyft Shaves Off the Fuzzy Pink Mustache

When it comes to car sharing apps, Uber is probably the first name to get into people’s minds, but that is because it’s the only one that operates worldwide and also managed to infuriate taxi companies in some regions. Lyft is another popular choice but their services never left the US. The company was recognizable by having big pink mustaches stuck to the front of its cars. “Was” because they’ll get “shaved” soon.

Some might like the fuzzy thing while others might laugh at seeing it strapped to the front of a car, but thing is it will disappear. According to a Wired story, the pink carstache is about to be replaced because some clients can’t arrive somewhere for a serious job in a car wearing pink facial hair.

“If you were going to an important business meeting, it might not be the best way to roll up,” Lyft president John Zimmer explains. Don’t worry though, you’ll still be able to spot your car via a unique element in the shape of a... similar mustache.

The company teamed up with Ammunition design studio and after dozens of redesigns and even the idea to ditch the whole thing, they came up with the “glowstache”. This is basically the same concept but a bit more mature: the fluffy mustache got shrunk into a small smooth plastic one drivers can place on their dashboard.

It’s more modern now and it represents the evolved Lyft company, even at night when the thing emits a gentle pink glow. So next time you’re waiting for your ride look for pink on the dashboard rather than on the grille.
