Luxgen Unveils 2.2L MEFI Turbo Engine

Taiwanese carmaker Luxgen recently revealed it has developed the 2.2L MEFI (Multi-Electronic-Fuel-Injection) Turbo engine in collaboration with LMM (Le Moteur Moderne). The new powerplant is capable of delivering 175 hp at 6,000rpm plus an outstanding 275 Nm of torque spanning from 2,500 to 4,000rpm range.

In fact, according to Luxgen, the torque performance is comparable to a typical 3.0-liter engine. Built from aluminium alloy, the 2.2L MEFI Turbo engine weighs 135 kg, which reportedly makes it 13% lighter than engines with the same displacement.

“I was truly surprised when I first read the 2.2L MEFI TURBO engine project,” said Hidaka Yoshiaki, the engine design consultant. “For achieving both high output and reliable engine performance, the engineering process and required precision would therefore be more complicated.”

In addition, the reverse-mounting configuration of the engine facilitates improved emission performance by positioning the engine’s intake in front, allowing colder air to be ingested to improve the intake efficiency.

Meanwhile, rear facing exhaust ports allow the catalyst converter to be positioned closer for quicker catalyst warm up to reduce emission.

“Due to the comprehensive support received from world-leading automotive engineering experts during its development, the quality of LUXGEN 2.2L MEFI TURBO engine is thus without a doubt,
” said Olivier Soustelle, the engine tuning consultant.

The engine fully complies with the Euro 4 emission standard.

Luxgen brags its 2.2L MEFI TURBO engine “strikes a fine balance between performance, efficiency and emission to become the new benchmark for modern engine design and engineering.”
