Luigi Colani's Miura LeMans Concept for Sale on eBay

A one-off concept prototype car built by legendary designer Luigi Colani in 1970 is being auctioned on eBay. The car was built from a Miura rear-end, sawed off behind the seats and a front section that's probably made of fiberglass.

The concept car was a sensation in 1970 in Europe and toured the European show car circuit in the orange paint scheme. After that the car was wrapped in blue and gold paint and badged by Veedol Oil in 1974 as the Colani Le Mans Prototype. Veedol Oil (division of Getty Oil) took it to the USA sometime in the mid seventies.

The car still has the original Miura rear suspension, rear magnesium rims, but the original Miura V12 engine is missing. The front suspension is a bit unorthodox though, being controlled by "a type of joystick/tiller". It doesn't seem to allow front wheel movement, so the entire front assembly must rotate around the mounting point to the rear.

The auction ends on December 4 and up till now it has no bids, with a starting bid of $74,999. Unfortunately the car is in pretty bad shape, as the seller himself describes.

"The car's canopy was broken into several pieces somewhere in the last 30 years. We have the pieces and and could replicate a new one for the new owner for an additional charge," said the current owner of the car.

The car is not only designed by Colani but is also built by the designer himself. The car features the prime characteristic of his designs – rounded, organic forms, which Colani terms "biodynamic".
